The Complete Thanksgiving Hosting Checklist

Hosting Thanksgiving well is less about cooking and more about not forgetting anything. This Thanksgiving hosting checklist walks through every task from two weeks out to the moment guests walk in, so the day stays calm and the host gets to enjoy it too. Print it, work through it, and check things off.
Two Weeks Out
Confirm your guest count and any dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free, keto, allergies). Set your menu and decide what's potluck. Order the turkey if it's fresh, or buy it frozen and clear fridge space to thaw it. Inventory your serving dishes, roasting pan, thermometer, and chairs — borrow or buy what's missing now, not the night before.
The Week Before
Do the big grocery shop using your Thanksgiving grocery list printable, organized by store section. Make cranberry sauce and pie dough (both keep). Stage the table: wash and iron linens, polish candlesticks, and test-print your place cards. Deep-clean the guest bathroom and the parts of the kitchen guests will see. Confirm any potluck contributions.
Two Days Before
Bake the pies and assemble any make-ahead sides (stuffing, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole up to the bake). Thaw the turkey in the fridge if it isn't already. Set the table the night before so you wake up to one less task. Stock the guest bathroom and lay out extra blankets and coats.
Day-Of
Pull the turkey out to temper an hour before roasting. Follow your Thanksgiving cooking schedule: turkey in first, sides in while it rests, gravy from the drippings last. Set out appetizers and a drink station so guests self-serve. Take the turkey out to rest, finish the sides, and sit down. A hosting checklist exists so you can stop holding it all in your head.
